Best Friends
I know I've posted before about how four-legged creatures can turn into your best friends. Suzy, a pointer, not only loves to hunt but she's become an irreplaceable member of our family. As my pregnancy came to a close, and I started having some complications and not feeling well, she started laying by our bedroom door or on the floor on my side of the bed. Granted, we did have some mishaps - I did step on her a few times in the middle of the night, and she did wake me with her snoring - but there's something extremely special about knowing that she's keeping a close eye on me especially when I'm feeling under the weather. I worried at first that she would harbor some jealous feelings, but it's actually been the complete opposite. She now has to know where Emma is at all times. If Emma wakes up for a bottle during the night, Suzy comes and stands by the bedroom door, follows me to the kitchen and into the nursery, all with this "Will you hurry up, already.." look. And from the look of these photos.. I think I may have lost my best four-legged friend. But I can't wait to see how this relationship develops!

I have two Dogs both are Service Dogs(Search and Rescue), I can relate to how these animals become part of your life. It is a special bond that man creates with his canine... no matter what the Dog will always be there... you cant ask for any more loyal frind that a Dog.
That is so sweet. We have one that follows us to each room and enjoys the comfort of our bed. And it's not a baby.
I suspect that Suzy will still be your friend & companion, but she'll be keeping an eye on the new member of the pack ... and will not hesitate to leave you standing as she runs to "help" the baby.
By the way, that is one. cute. girl. (daughter, I mean)
Am so glad that Suzy gets along so lovingly with Emma, and that your pet is turning into "baby's best friend" as well as your helper and protector. What cute pictures ... love the facial expressions!
Am off to read and comment on your previous blog post as well ...
That is so awesome. And a good dog like that is hard to find. I'm sure Emma and her will create many memories together.
How sweet! Dogs are truly amazing sometimes! Looks like you've got a great protector!
Great post and as you know, there is no loyalty like that of our four legged best friends. Wonderful photos!
Dogs are so kid likeable. They love kids and can be very protective at time which in today's world could be a good thing. Like you and Suzy my dog Sampson will always be somewhere near by my wife and young son especially at night when I am at work.
My Lab goes everywhere I go with my daughter, when I take her to Day Care or pick her up Dakota (My Yellow Lab goes with) he watchs over her and steals her food. Dogs are awesome.
Dogs & babies--wonderful. I like when students stop by my office with their kids, just to say hi to MollyTheDog.
I have an Old English sheep Dog. She is just another kid to me...
Dogs and Babies just go together! Sugar's first word was "bye bye" her 2nd word was "Drake" our younger lab's name. He was still part-time in the house when she was little. Now I've had to kick him out to being a full-time outdoor dog - and that makes me sad because Goose doesn't have the same relationship with him that Sugar had.
Your little one is adorable!
Dogs are truly 100% members of the family. I like the name Emma. Your daughter (a charmer!) and my Shorthair share it.
