The latest topic for the TravelKS Blog was the Mined Land Wildlife Area in Southeast Kansas. I had never been there, and actually wasn't expecting much. Boy, was I wrong! This has easily become one of my favorite spots in Kansas... beautiful scenery, amazing fishing... it's literally like walking into an outdoorsman's paradise.
We rarely get to have any weekends away, and the worst part about this trip was that it rained most of the time. We still had fun anyway!! Emma found most of the puddles, and it made for some amazing scenery and beautiful scenic photographs. Because of all the rain we didn't spend much time fishing, but I have to admit we had just as much fun exploring the area and all that it had to offer.
We also made a quick pit stop to see Big Brutus. Big Brutus is the largest electric shovel in the world. It's approximately 16 stories tall and weighs close to 11 million pounds. You can not hardly comprehend it's size unless you're visiting in person. Here's a photo of my daughter Emma on the path to go see it, most of the shovel actually hidden from the camera. If you've ever in the area, it's a must see! For more information, here's the website: Big Brutus.
